There is so much of buzz going around the tourism industry about the rapid leaps of the Caribbean islands that
the naive` and first time travellers are bound to ask - What are the
Caribbean islands? In the simplest geographical terms, the islands falling to the south-eastern side of the
Mexican Gulf, the eastern side of Central America and the northern side of South America and surrounded by the
waters of the Caribbean Sea classify as the Caribbean islands. Though the above definition is technically precise,
but not many would disagree that it is a bit too wordy and bland to capture the lively spirit of the Caribbean
islands.
The Caribbean Islands actually refers to a group of several
small, mid sized and large islands in proximity to each other. A good number of cays and islets are also included
apart from the islands. Over the past two to three decades, the Caribbean Islands have made rapid leaps and made their presence known to
the travel enthusiasts from all parts of the world. The natural beauty of these parts of the world is enough to
attract millions of visitors all over the year. From beach lovers to divers, explorers to swimmers; the Caribbean
islands are magnetizing for people from all walks of life.
Of the thousands of Caribbean islands, some have gained popularity faster than the others, and have consequently
grown in stature over the past few years. The beach lovers converge diligently towards the islands of Anguilla, Grenada and St.
Lucia to come up close and personal to the waters of the Caribbean Sea. The beaches here are so crystal clear
that visitors feel the urge of leaving all their plans behind and just soaking in the vibes of the Caribbean
islands that emanate in their purest form from these beaches. Most of the beaches have ample number of beachside
plantation hotels and resorts that make the vacation to the Caribbean Islands and beaches all the more memorable. Also, it is great
fun sipping on beer and rum on a small bar under the palms and engaging in some lively banter with the cheerful
locals.
The Leeward Islands of the Caribbean have British undercurrents that continue to pervade the social fabric of
the islands. Nevis and St. Kitts are two major tourist destinations, and right at the top of the list of families
planning tropical vacations and newly wed couples planning on making their honeymoons special and eternally
memorable. Some world renowned resorts have come up in these places. These resorts present the best of facilities
that tourists can demand, including large spa centres and extravagant adventure sports facilities.
The Virgin Islands of the Caribbean are generally
categorized as British and United States Virgin Islands. St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix are the U.S. Virgin Islands and are thronged by bubbling vacationers for
a good part of the year. On the other hand, the British Virgin Islands of the likes of Tortola and Virgin Goda are
particularly well suited for the interests of people looking for seclusion and balm on their visit to the
Caribbean Islands.
