Dominica Carnival
The carnival season is the festive time of year on the tropical island of Dominica. The carnival, which is held
at the traditional pre-Lenten time, is a wonderful combination of calypso, shows and two exciting days of
street jump-up. Dominica’s Carnival is formally opened about a month before Carnival Monday and Tuesday. In
the year 2010, the carnival celebrations began on January 23 with carnival Monday and Tuesday taking place on
February 15th and 16th respectively.
As it is with all the carnival celebrations in the Caribbean, there are many prizes to be won and the carnival
in Dominica is no exception. Some of the titles include Carnival King, Carnival Queen,
Junior Calypso Monarch, Road
March Song, Miss Teen Dominica and Carnival Princess.
